The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is at the smaller end of the midsize range. It has a 114.2-inch wheelbase and 197.7-inch length, which is about 16.5 feet. The 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, on the other hand, has a 120.9-inch wheelbase and measures 205.9 inches in length, which is more than 17 feet. The ground clearance of the Traverse is 7.5 inches, and the Pathfinder is a bit less at 7.1 inches. In both cases, 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlamps are standard. Chevrolet also includes heated mirrors. Nissan adds them with the up-level trim. Both automakers offer roof rails and 20-inch wheels.

But the Chevrolet V6 offers better performance—26 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque—while delivering fuel economy that is as good as the Pathfinder if not better. In both cases, rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. The Rock Creek is the one model that includes it in the base package. Trailering equipment is available for both the Traverse and Pathfinder. The Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The Pathfinder can tow up to 6,000 pounds. But that’s only with the Rock Creek or Platinum. The other models tow up to 3,500 pounds whereas all Traverse models can tow up to 5,000 pounds with the upgrade.

An 8-inch touch screen with integrated navigation is optional. The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen and a rear camera but only wired versions of the Android and Apple software. A 9-inch screen with navigation is optional. The standard and optional driver-assistance technologies are comparable for the most part. Nissan does not offer a digital rearview mirror, and Chevrolet does not offer a head-up display.
